The crisis is immediate. There is no help to avail. All lines are busy, the electronics have started flashing ghosts from your memory’s past. There’s a small opening through it all, but in order to reach it, you need to work through so much – things you kept brushing under the carpet, the carpet in your mind that matches the drapery of your rich, elaborate con that you call life. It’s a mere hole, and because of its location, it is of utmost importance. Remember when the same hole showed up on your dingy boat and you almost drowned? The first regret that flashed in neon signs was – WHY DID I NEVER FINISH MOBY DICK? The last comfort that helped you sail to land was – THANK GOD I AT LEAST READ THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA. No lessons in these books were meant to save you, it was the fact that you were a part of something so outward of you that made life possible. The windowpanes are about to shatter now, but that does not mean that is a way out. See, when it shatters, the shards are going to aim directly for your weak spots, inflicting enough damage for you to writhe in pain. The first thought you will have is – WHY DID I NOT PREPARE MYSELF FOR ALL THIS PAIN? The voice of reason will retort back, in a mild tone, not in flashing neon signs but as a note slipped under the same bloody carpet – you were too busy protecting yourself from wounds that were anyways fated. Now the only way out is to crawl to the hole, somewhere on the ground, except it is too small to fit all of you with all of YOU inside. You have to leave something behind permanently. On second thought, maybe a lot of things. Sorry, we know we can’t afford to have second thoughts or ruminations in this immediate moment that is happening right now in the present as we speak and read and comprehend. Our advice to you is that you start making a move. You are broken down enough that it will take you time to figure the way out; why don’t you use it to make a will of sorts? Right outside the portal is a probate office, and they work all night. You won’t meet anybody there, but your work will be done and delivered to your place, wherever you will be during the time of delivery. Where were you during your mother’s time of delivery? Inside her, of course, sorry, we were aiming for a funny joke. You did find the opening then too, right? Even with a cord around your neck. So why not treat this like that? Stop failing, start flailing; we think we will reinvent our brand and make that our new tagline. All you have to do is focus on this noose around your neck, that has been there for a lifetime now. Focus on the chokehold and let your vision narrow – it will guide you to the right place. We would like to apologise by the way, we forgot to tell you, there are multiple portals – but you have been choosing one thing over another all your existence, right? We think you got this. We are not allowed to cheer or be hopeful for anybody, so our rational remarks are – you will make it if it comes to that. Think of your birth, you did that. This time around, the consolation is that you know how to breathe.

I think the last line really made all the difference to me. Think of my birth, I did it. And now the only consolation is that I know how to breathe.
