Modern Woman Manifesto
shoutout my truest friend i love you thank you for always being there. i wish you didn't live this far my dearest rson
No woman, no cry
The Woman is enmeshed in a girlhood that is lost in a past that is still dissolving, leaving residual salt in the wounds. The Woman is tackling gender and sexuality, in a safe space (a room with friends at the Same Level of some definition; a house party; a bumble date with another woman), trying to discern how she can appease her inner child. But my inner child WANTS me to be reckless and attempt a career in film within my own life; I am but a heroine, I am but my own favorite, my number 1 fan, my only friend. The Woman takes pride in her solitude and how far she has come alone, conveniently forgetting everybody who walked with her, sat with her, or lent her a cigarette or a pad or a pen or bought her tea or remembered something about her. The Woman longs for community but she has a disillusioned idea of it – learnt from Cool Girl shows and films and books (yes, of course she reads, whenever she can. And substack and long form IG carousels count, right?). The Woman is open minded, and has had friends from all walks of life, but they can all afford dinner that has a bill that comes up in four digits. The Woman prides herself upon her Independence. New city, new apartment, money of her own. No need to marry a man. But the Woman falls in the trap anyways – she unknowingly charts a route for herself. Education, job, relationship. It is so important to have a man who loves you, who cares for you, who is a green flag, whose only personality is being a good boyfriend whom you can compare to the dog you had as a child, who makes money, who learns you inside out, who goes the extra length to LOVE you, who looks good on social media, who has no social media presence of his own, who has no women friends, who does not smoke or drink more than you can tolerate, who has no say in your outfits and your attitudes regarding certain things, who who WHO is this man? So the Woman puts herself in situations. Finds a man. Who is a boy. So that he can be a Boyfriend, duh. But he doesn’t want to. But the situation has sailed, it is a ship. The woman goes on IG, finds a post – THIS JUST IN! Having a boyfriend is embarrassing. She never wanted one anyway. She is a lovergirl, she will find what she deserves. Meanwhile, the school of thought propending friendship is romance dies due to a lack of emotional funding. All the financing has been switched to the Self Esteem Connected to Beauty Currency, and everybody is trading Online. The Woman texts other Women, and they all agree, nodding in agreement. We are so much better than this Situation, we are not going to let our heart get broken anymore, he was embarrassing me so much, I will never go back to him, does he know how many swipes I have on Hinge? The boy texts back, sweet enough. Aren’t we all put on this earth for something? Modern Woman.
